Second Year of College, Done : Important Lessons of The Year.

I wanted to preface this by saying this is a quick run down of some personal insights and I’m finally done with finals and all….. so more blog posts to come.

  1. People’s opinions don’t matter and never really will.

It took me so long to realize that people pleasing wasn’t pleasing me. Although I was making other people happy, I myself wasn’t happy doing things that I saw as acceptable to others. Yes, obeying rules and listening to thoughts of others is good in regards to understanding where they are coming from, but honestly living a cautious life to be accepted is so unfulfilling and it gives our power and uniqueness away. Putting peoples opinions above our own is boring, anyways.

Life is hectic and life is short, take some time to enjoy whatever fills you up with joy ( EVERY SINGLE DAY.) If that’s reading a book in the morning, then read that book. If it’s waking up to do yoga or meditate, then wake up and do yoga or meditate. This life is made for us to enjoy and what’s so great about it if we can’t make time for ourselves each day? We are more than just working robots, we are people with needs. The more you respect yourself enough to carve out time for yourself, the happier you will be, and the happier those around you will be. It’s like a joyous cycle of the gift that keeps on giving.

3.  Even if your opinion is unfavorable, it’s still valid.

If everyone could slow down and listen to one another’s opinions and acknowledge that everyone has a right to their own opinion, there would be less yelling, hatred, and more acceptance. Some people have different opinions and viewpoints and guess what? That’s ok!!!! That is their own truth and if they want to live by that.. then fine, there is no reason to get mad and claim your opinion is more valid than theirs.

4. BE YOU! Unapologetically, happily, truthfully YOU.

Look, YOU ARE AMAZING! YOU ARE UNIQUE. THERE IS NO ONE ON THIS PLANET LIKE YOU. You are the only you, so show the world who you are, what you bring to the table, your likes, dislikes… talents, & creativity… let the world admire and enjoy your AMAZING presence. Everyone is a gift who needs to be fully embraced! Who is the world going to embrace when you’re trying to be like someone else? BE YOU
